Loudness Wars

This is a serious inquiry -- After hearing the UA tracks with their staff, it got me wondering which labels currently produce music that hasn't been squashed to death a la the infamous loudness war. If you know the names, please list them.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Legendary Pink Dots, Plutonium Blonde. Not compressed to all hell, sounds awesome. No "louder" than a early 90s CD.

I too HATE over compressed tracks.

I was personally opposed to it when my band released our last EP, now the whole band regrets getting wrapped up in the Loudness War. I think there's a happy medium. I personally prefer a mix that I want to turn up as opposed to one I want to turn down because it's fatiguing. I just recently got back into The Wall (For the 1000th time) and I love the fact that I can turn my iPod all the way up and it's a perfect level. Supergrass's "Supergrass" is loud, but it sounds great. Massive Attack's Mezzanine is pretty spot on.

DM's Playing the Angel was way too loud. I'm sure you'll see many albums in the next decade get remastered because of this crap loudness war. You'll find that most of the cutting edge respectable artists are not getting wrapped up in it.

Some more on this topic, a non-profit organisation that tries to set some standards (including offering a free loudness meter):
