suggestions for overdubbing drum on finished tracks

i need to tracks drums on a session that was already done a while back. They are not satisfied with the drum tracks so i got hired to replace it.
Anyways, my main problem is that i got the PT session with all the tracks but the session tempo has nothing to do with the tracks meaning they probably followed some sort of a click from another source ( not in PT ) but that click was not recorded into PT ( bad move ).
So the only solution i can think of right now is to create a tempo map from the drum parts BUT unfortunately it's not the most steady/grooviest part even though it was done to a click. Any suggestions people ???
Thanks

find a really good drummer, or just program a midi click manually, just set up a wood block or whatever and hit it every beat.

Pull the existing drums out of the mix and learn the tune based on the way the other tracks are played. Play to the bass player and the singer.

is it possible the click is buried somewhere in a playlist? possible the studio that originally recorded it has a more complete version of the session?

I have had to do this a few times myself. I never made a tempo map with bad drums that was better than the bang-along-with-a-cowbell thing. I think of it as a drumming challenge, not an engineering challenge.
