Couple of n00b questions...

1)ams neve 1073 dpa has a hi/low z switch ,what does it do?

hi z=12-- ohm

low z =300ohm

What does it mean and how choosing each of the two effect's anything?

2)The trim on the dpa (+/-10) its for the output and not the input right? meaning its for sending signal out of the dpa and into outboard gear or into a sound card (and not out to monitors or something right)?

3)In the manual when they say the Mic gain is across two class A gain stages what dot hey mean?

4)Lets say i have a dpa and i want to send something from ff800 to it and back....so i go

ff800 2xtrs to trs out (3,4)--->into 1073 dpa line in 1,2 .
then:
1073 dpa line out 1,2 via xlr to res back to rme ff800 3,4 in.

Have i gone wrong here?

its just weird not using trs on the way out of the neve...

Thanks for your time!

1) Like many more modern preamps, it's a switchable impedance setting. In theory, you match the impedance to the mic. In practice, you flick the switch and decide which setting you think sounds best. There's no right or wrong, and you can't blow anything up.

2) yes - try 2 extremes - lots of gain, and back off the level, and not much gain, but a high output "to tape" (or DAW). you should notice a big difference in character.

3) someone more technical can chime in, but it's just the type of amplifier that's involved...wikipedia "class A amps" or something for more info.

4) most pro gear is on XLRs. It's not just for mic signals. You can go in and out on XLRs (the line in appears to be a combi jack).
