Noob Question

Heya,

I notice a substantial difference from preamp to preamp when using a dynamic microphone. However, I do not notice a substantial difference from preamp to preamp when using a condenser microphone. Does this have anything to do with an impedance differential among amongst the two types of microphones?

Thanks in advance,

-Cody

It would be beneficial if you made your thread title a little more descriptive of your question. To someone browsing thread titles, "Noob Question" does not tell them anything of what your question might be whereas "Do Preamps make a difference for Condenser Mics" or something like that might jog someones curiosity.

Imagine a forum filled with "Noob Question" "Expert Question" "Intermediate Question" threads. It would be mayhem. In addition, being more descriptive helps people down the road who might have the same question and are searching by thread title.

^^^ Agreed on the thread title.

To answer the OP, dynamic microphones are passive, and so are more susceptible to loading effects. But most preamps have a high enough input impedance to not load a dynamic microphone much. So the differences should never be substantial. If that's really true, then something else may be wrong.
