8 Channels of Front End for Mobile Recording

What would you suggest for 8 channels of DAW front end? I've got a Macbook running Logic with a Lynx Aurora 16 on Firewire. I've got 8 channels of mic pres in the form of an SCA kit, but now want to use the extra 8 inputs.

I do mostly indie/rock with some acoustic work, acoustic guitars, string sections. So I want a compact 8 channel setup with some EQ and compression.

Is an API 500 rack the way to go?

A lot of guys swear by the ATI 8mx2. Its 8 pres with a stereo mixer.

Studio Projects makes a similar unit which is 8 Burr Brown pres and a mixer. A lot less money than the ATI.

2 Sytek 4 channel units would work.

I'm looking for kit which is higher quality than the SCA which is why I'm considering an API rack.
This would give me space in a 10-space unit for eq which I don't have. How would you fill an API rack or what would you suggest as great alternatives. 8 channels don't have to be all in one unit...

The double API 3124 setup sounds kick ass....you could also try a Wunder Audio PAFOUR setup....of shit, one 3124 and one PAFOUR....you could conquer the world!

ANY Metric Halo setup works for me! The ULN8 is on my covet list!

The API Lunchbox route is NEVER a bad thing. SO MANY choices there.
MY CHOICES are...... Stuff I own now:
Avedis MA5 (Neve to the bone!)
API 512c (always good!)
Great River (needs space, but oh my!)
API 560 EQ (get a whole lot of these too!)

Stuff I shall own soon:
MORE AVEDIS STUFF (hee hee)
MORE API's (more hee hee)
A Designs P-1 (I just gotta try one)
Chandler Germanium (I sold mine and now miss it!)
