why so many questions on here??

just wondering..

seems a little unorganized to go on here and find so many questions posted on the main "so much gear, so little time!" sub-forum while there's the dedicate "tips & techniques" sub-forum

also, most the questions being asked are low budget and would probably be better answered on the "low budget" sub-forum

EDIT: alright so jules cleared up to me that the tips & techniques isn't for questions. but anyways, i guess i understand why so many people post on here

also for those talking about moan zone.. lol

My observation on the subject is that people want the most views as possible of their threads. This forum is by far the most active, like it or not. It's sort of a snowball effect. The more people that view this forum, the more people post in here because of it. And the more people post in here, the more people are going to view this forum. You dig?

I've also noticed that the GS moderators are very easy going, and certainly are not on a mission to move every single thread into a more appropriate forum. Theres tons of computer questions in here even though theres a music computer forum. Theres tons of discussion of Avalon, API, Neve, SSL etc. in this forum even though theres a high end forum. Theres tons of people with a laptop and a 2-in, 2-out interface asking questions in here even though theres a low end forum. Really, the only threads that get moved are "moan zone" contenders, for sale/want to buy posts and political/music business threads.

That's how I see it, too.

You have the most potential for views/responses in this forum due to how busy it is but there is also the same potential for your thread to be buried within 10 minutes and pushed off of page 1.

You may also miss getting answers from people that are into a certain "niche" forum and spend most of their time there.

Why would you post a question on the tips and techniques forum. Unless your tip is how to properly ask a question........... wait, even that's not a question. I'm also curious, what makes a question "low budget"?

IMO the "low budget" subforum is for "low budget" gear, financially speaking.

This particular forum has the largest umbrella of possibilities, which is why it gets the most traffic.

The tips and techniques area isn't open for questions. It's a general read only tips directory.

I always start with "new posts" so don't even notice what the category is unless it seems wierd (which many posts do, it has changed a lot in the past five years here!).

GearSlutz used to be less newbie oriented on one hand, and in-clubby on the other hand, and GS is less relvant to my life compared to professional fora where people must use their real names.

Ducking and covering,

It's because when peolple first sign up for GS there is a very stern warning not to spam and post already over-posted questions. So scared, green newbies don't want to upset what they perceive to be a super professional and organized forum. Naturally their timidness directs them to the general "so much gear so little time" forum and away from the specific forums. You'll notice their first post always starts with "I'm REALLY sorry if this has already been discussed, and I'm REALLY sorry if this is posted in the wrong place....what is the best preamp for blah blah blah" After that first post in "so much gear so little time" it is their familiar comfort zone, and thats where they stay.
