Best Drum Program?

Hi , I must say this is the best forum I;ve found by far. It is really appreciated
thanks. What is the best drum composing program for recording? I have real drums for tracking as well as a dm5-sr16. Problem is I can't get a good enough drummer to play the parts I wright. I do mostly jazz fusion progressive stuff and thing get complicated .What a good program for composing complicated parts with the least amount of complicated effort and time? Maybe something ffor scoring drum parts for film might be what I need.

You might want to checkout Drumkit From Hell Superior (DFHS) with the Custom & Vintage software from Toontrack.

I picked this up recently and I say it's a must buy if you are looking for real drums. The room mics feature is incredible. I haven't truly gotten deep into yet but just the few times I've toyed with it, I'd recommend it to anyone. Make sure your processor can handle it though. It's a hog.

I use BFD for composition and for stacking sounds. They just released V1.5 which expands the functionality quite a bit.

I was seriously impressed with BFD, or was that with Toolskid playing it?

I am currently using BFD and DFHs they are both pretty dam cool. I like DFHs cymbals a bit more than BFD but the drums and rooms are amazing in BFD.

I sort of got the impression Paulieg was actually looking more for the software to drive a drum module (whether hardware or virtual), ie, a MIDI sequencer. He's already got a dedicated drum module (the DM5) as well as a drum machine that can (with a fair bit of repatching) be used as a drum module as well as a drum machine.

Of course, BFD does have its robo-drummer functionality (which, I must admit, even though I like the basic parts okay, I find awkard to work with...) And BFD is proably much more realistic sounding than most folks will tend to get with a conventional drum module like the DM5. (I have both, myself.) So, in that sense, it obviates the use of an external MIDI sequencer. (Before I bought it, I was thinking about it as a virtual drum machine. But after I started using it, it became just another drum module to me, albeit one with a unique set of capabilities in its ability to 'blend' multiple mic positions. But driven by sequences in Sonar, my DAW/MIDI sequencer.)

He was , but the discussion got sidetracked....by a dealer.

Classy.

Any decently spec-ed midi program such as logic, cubase, ableton etc etc plus recycle to extract groove templates to use is my recommendation.

Cheers
