Neumann dynamic??

Hello all,

still wondering if anyone has heard this mic yet?

Searched threads here and found the one where everybody was talking about prices of this and that blah blah blah but nobody mentioned how it sounds.

so let's have it.

I have one. I have been enjoying it on bass, and front kick. I used it in front of a fender twin for gtr as well, and it was really good, mixed with an old tannoy large ribbon. I also threw it at the bottom of a leslie 147 and it totally rocked. It is really open, and airy, and surprisingly present, which is why I liked it for a rock bass sound a lot on a portaflex. Really cought the growl well, and mixed amazingly well with the avalon U5 DI. The mount is REALLY cumbersome, but used on a clamp like the kind you would use for the pop screen, it is easily positioned. I wish there was a smarter mount for the thing, but aside from that, I feel like it is a really worthwhile mic. It comes in a crappy case as well, that looks like a macallan single malt canister thing...
Totally lame packaging, but I guess they assume it would be installed and left on a stand or arm at a radio station or whatever. Even an RE20 has a good case though....
If they put it in a wooden case it would probably be like 9 million more dollars knowing those guys.... Anyway: I personally really like it. I dont know how much they cost on the street now, but the thing seems to kick butt in places I would normally like a TLM170, or a 4033, or an RE20, or a FET47 (out kik).
In front of the kick it actually had some great beater sound in it, which was really nice... just ranting. I like it a lot.

You answered your own complaints. You've never worked in a radio station have ya? Thry don't store mics or keep packaging. You are using it out of it's intended niche market. Like you said, anything nicer and they would have had to charge you $250 more for that $2.50 Chinese wooden box.
