from the top if my head I'd pick:
moses schneider
andy classen
manfred eicher

I vote for JEO. I often don't like the records he mixes, but the mixes themselves are always great.
Greetings,
T.

I agree, his mixes are great. But I have to admit, I also like some of the records themselves. There is not much information about him around though. Is he on GS?
Cheers.

Tough topic.
The beforementioned Manfred Eicher indeed is very very good, probably there are big names in classical production, don't know.
Pop producers - sorry, they all try to "fulfill standards" that they think exist. Not one really interesting album i'd know of.
IMO the most interesting side of German music can be found in electronic genres. Some groundbreaking stuff going on there.
edit: wer ist JEO?

Can you guys please give some artist names or even song names together with the mentioned producers?
Though I´m from Germany I´m not really familiar with the local scene... |

Most German pop music is not so good, (actually , Die Toten Hosen= pretty good, Rammstein of course), I think because so many of them try to put a western spin on things, when they should just be themselves. (like Die Toten Hosen)
there are many fantastic Death/Gloom Metal producers/engineers there, though..
I miss living in Germany.

Whoever did the last Udo Lindenberg album! That's a really great production and it stands up to anything released anywhere else so I think this 'German pop sucks' thesis is a buch of crap!

That would be Andreas Herbig. Besides Lindenberg he produced A-Ha, Ich&Ich and countless other great records.
I'd also like to think that our productions (Marek Pompetzki & Paul NZA) are mostly pretty good, at least people seem to like them, e.g. Sido, Stefanie Heinzmann, Cassandra Steen feat. Adel Tawil "Stadt" |
