What's your compact, "real-world" monitor?

I really miss my Auratones. I've used them for years and relied heavily on them for getting final levels on all my mixes. But I'm done with trying to track down replacement cones for them and so I'm looking for a new crap-monitor.

I'd love something with the same, single-speaker design. I think that really helped with their accurate response. If not, maybe I'll check out those dandy 'lil Yamaha MSP3's. I also used to be fond of the metal-cased 3" speakers that Radio Shack made, but they had an entirely different flavor.

Any suggestions?

Fostex 6301B's. They're inexpensive, they're powered, they're single driver and they're cool.

I use ATC 20's now, but I always check the mix on the Fostex's.

I use an old Panasonic AM-FM wood grained table radio with a cheap 4" speaker in it. It's all mid range, but still sounds very listenable for long periods of time. I wired in a switched 1/4" jack in the back, and run it off my headphone output off the Mackie mixer. If I unplug the mixer feed, I can listen to the radio.

It sums both channels so I can hear things in mono for reference. It looks nice, and could be found in any office, where music is heard.

I got it at a garage sale for $3.00.

Works great !!
