It's all a waste of time...

Unless you have GREAT monitors. Yeah yeah yeah....it's the oldest cliche around - but everyone thinks mics and pre's are more sexy. So I bring home a set of the Adams 2.5 whatevers only to want to puke at some of the mixes I've got going.

GAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!! It all means shit w/o GREAT monitors man, don't kid yourself...Oh I'm used to them, and know how they translate blah blah bl;ah and then spend the money on sexy pres instead. I used the same excuses.

But guess what, big deal, so they translate well on some shit car stereo or some crappy home stereo - those systems are doing the same thing your cheap monitors are doing.....masking crap.

The problem is that each is masking different crap.

you will also want to "puke' when you hear a lot of the current pop mixes on your adams....i can't believe how many things are getting by the current crop of top mixers...and dont listen to the let it be naked CD on your adams you will heav for sure ...all the added digital distortion from the so called "improvments they made....oy....now on the other hand Dark Side of the Moon will make you cry for joy on your new speakers

Most music now a days is listened to on MP3's, TV speakers, crappy car speakers, crappy computer speakers, etc.

No surprise that sound quality is just not as big an issue as it used to be.

Heck, even the speakers in old time juke boxes were far better than what most people hear today.

Ha so you've got those 2.5s now eh? I tried em out for about a month, they were pretty nice. You know there's no going back now...

I ended up with the S2A's as they sounded better in my room.

What was the average person listening through in the past that was better?
Juke Boxes???

Monitors sound different in every room. There is no monitor type or model that will sound great in every room. Find what works in your environment, and roll with it. When you are in other rooms, bring CDs that you know. Then learn the sound of that room with those monitors (or yours if you bring them). The room makes a huge difference in how the monitors sound.

Can't wait to get a pair of those 2.5A's. Still the best monitor I've heard to date. F'n amazing how honest they are.

Brilliant!

i made a huge step forward after upgrading from crappy technics hifi monitors to my klein&hummel setup O198 with sub O8000.

of course they mask differently. still it's been easier to get to know them and mix on them.

then there is also the subject about panorama, depth etc resolution and the dry deep bass i have now. i'd say that it is impossible to mix low end on cheap monitors that don't play the sub at all. but u know YMMV
