| Gear addict | Using older boards w/ Protools..newbie 2 protools
Can someone explain to me how this is done? This may be a weird question, but when using protools, how in the world do people control the digital levels of a track while using, say, an analog SSL board?? Am I an idiot? I see these big digital boards to control protools on sweetwater and whatnot, but never in the studio. This might be a stupid question. Also, when one mixes down with a protools rig, do they typically mixdown to digital or tape? And if it is digital, how are the outboard effects fed into the protools rig? I have never used protools, only DAWs. Im about to get into it. Thanks!

Protools > 32 D/A converters > 32 channel Analog console Or: Fancy SSL console for looks, and the "Pro tools Guy" mixing in the box on the side.

| Gear addict | So, does one control the levels of the recorded tracks w/ their analog desk? And the EQ of them on playback?? In other words is there any way to get an analog board to act as a glorified remote control to PT? I would assume most people with real nice outboard gear just use PT as a type of 'tape machine' and use all their outboard gear. i am sure some mix ITB and have a hella plugins and very minimal outboard..different paradigm?
