Programming in ProTools

All,

I run ProTools HD2 on PC and am interested in learning how to program. I usually hire this stuff out but lately I've been wanting to take a crack at it. I do mostly country music so the loops/beats would be very straightforward and would be compliments to live drums tracks.

I have been told that I need Reason or Kontakt....and that ProTools can handle the task of programming. I am not really interested in switching DAWs for this....

Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Thanks,
S0nguy

What you have been told is mostly correct. In addition you could use an external drum machine type module or pick up one of many plug ins for your purposes, Stylus Rmx being a good one. I think the Reason route could work well but if I were you, I would buy Ableton Live. It's the most used programming tool in my studio (outside of Max/MSP based apps for really freaky stuff). Ableton Live is IT for programming, hosting synth/drum/sample/fx module plugins, easy loop playback conformed to PT tempos, and making stale loops interesting. 'Nough said ; )

Do IT!!!!!!!

stylus rmx is a must

i used to use reason, gets a bit complicated...
a bit difficult to find usable libraries that truly sound good, IMO.

also, a couple people that I know have happily been using sample tank for certain tasks.

good luck
