But, a couple a recommendations, I lived there for 7 years; Music = go to THE Elephant Room on 6th street-- my favorite stop, check it out. Shop at Waterloo Records for EVERYTHING ever released, it's the best music store in the world, lot's of vinyl and used cd's . Beer and Burgers = Crown & Anchor bar . Don't leave Austin without hanging there for an evening. Instrument stores = Workhorse Guitars, Ray Henning music, Fibes Drums. I'll let you find the rest on your own. Cheers mate, have fun. you can check it out online at The Austin Chronicle too before you go. For blues, there is always Antones (home of the blues) and The Continental Club is also a piece of Austin history you should not miss. the chronicle and maybe the Austin-American Statesman's site Austin entertainment, events, food, movies, music | Austin360.com can help guide you for whatever type of music you want to see... Not on Sixth street... but close. It's between 3rd and 4th on Congress Ave (315) -- east side of the street. Manuel's is directly across the street... excellent mexican food (more 'interior' than tex-mex). Music Venues: Stubb's on Red River. Continental Club on South Congress. Saxon Pub on South Lamar. Antone's on West 5th. Waterloo records... some Friday afternoons. Broken Spoke on South Lamar. Check their websites for listings...

Oh, yeah... and Tortoise is playing in town at a club called Mohawk Wednesday night, July 15th, in support of their new Beacons of Ancestorship record . I think I'm gonna have to catch that one.

Workhorse Guitars is long since out of business. It's now a tatoo parlor. Along S. Lamar, over a few miile stretch are most of the music stores in town. Musicmakers Heart of Texas Music South Austin Music (good used guitars sometimes) Austin Vintage Guitars Strait Music All within a few miles of each other. Also on S. Lamar Blvd. --- Matts El Rancho, one of many good Tex Mex joints in town. Kerby Lane Cafe, basic hippy veg, killer migas, breakfast, always crowded, always good. Taco Deli isn't on S. Lamar, but its close, and great, and cheap. Guitar Resurrection and The Music Exchange are two more , more north. Both cool though. Clubs, Antones is the big blues club, you might see whose playing there. Yours truly will be at Flamingo Cantina (on sixth) with the Mau Mau Chaplains at 12am. 7-11 ![]() We've been in the low 100s F these days. Enjoy your visit. |
