Thread Starter | Drum bus compressor: Yes. Guitar/Vocal/Keyboard/Bass bus compressor: ???
A drum bus compressor to help reign in the dynamics a bit or glue the 8-14 channels together is pretty common. And I think that's been pretty standard going back a long way, even if only for a few dB. But what about bus compressing other elements - guitars, vocal, keys, etc.? Do you do it and how often if so? The only other place besides the mix bus I could imagine wanting to bus compress is if I had an R&B track with 20+ vocals that needed to gel. But for rock it's harder to see a point. Or am I missing something? Thanks. |

I often like a compressor on a guitar buss, keeps them nice and up-front. This is not a hard and fast rule of course. I don't always do this!
