I never stopped to think about it, but it's an interesting outlook.

That's no longer the case though. Guitar Center has been private since late 2007.

One of my students was raving about the sale. He couldn't wait to use his 15% off coupon. He bought a Crybaby for like 60 bucks. I got the same one from a pawn shop for $25! I tried to warn him, but couldn't burst the artificial reality bubble that the "music equipment industry" (or shall I say consumer electronics industry) placed him in. Oh well, it's a phase that we all go through. Most of us grow out of it.
I wasn't suggesting that GC profiles. I was suggesting that they did NOT profile. Because they check everyone's receipt, they are not profiling.

I'm not clear as to whether or not your post was suggesting they did. I just wanted to make it clear that mine did not.

Not at all. In fact, its more or less part of the training material to learn how to call everyone bro and be "super cool" and "hip". Not kidding.

Try going to GC Canton MI, or CG Southfield MI.

You'll get bro'ed. Hard.

there's a restaurant near me where the former owner would call me 'senator' when i walked in. i liked it. i think GC should mix it up and call people 'senator' sometimes.

In response to the greeter/inventory response thing, a company CAN NOT detain you at the door to "check your bag" unless they are going to press charges (in other words, they saw you steal something and have proof), or if it's a membership-only store (like Sam's Club).

Next time you are in Fry's or GC, you can breeze right out the door, and if they try to stop you it is illegal and you can threaten litigation. It's more known at Fry's, and they might let it go now, because they were actually doing this and those in the know were threatening to press charges and they were placating them by giving $100 or more gift cards.

Now you might not want to do this at GC if you shop there a lot but if you've got a Fry's...

I've been meaning to try it on Black Friday, because sometimes the line out the door is 10-15 minutes long at Fry's so I just want to leave, and they can't legally stop me.

Just walk on by. They may say "Hey we need to search your bags!" but they cannot stop you unless they've seen you shoplifting.
I usually do this, but over this fourth of July weekend, I celebrated our country's freedom by submitting to a receipt check, since the door guy looked like he ate cars for breakfast.

I think they should pinch their noses and scream "alo gubna!".

And that's the truth! Those two GC's have maybe one of two smart folks I like to deal with. Others are weird and think they speaking to high school buddies. The Southfield GC is better though, as long as you stay away from the younger fellas.

If the retailer cannot control losses of inventory, the cost will be reflected in the prices consumer pay.

If the market won't bear the inflated price to account for the loss, the bigger, more powerful retailer will then pressure the supplier to lower their cost.

This will filter up the supply chain until someone on behalf of the shareholders has a team of value engineers engineer the required value out of the product in manner that is least perceptable to the consumer.....that way, your rights haven't been violated.

Sorry for the confusion. I know that they don't profile. I was pointing out that if they did use the "efficiency" model however, they might start to seem even more like Wal-Mart.
