Grand piano

Anyone who has experienced a good sounding grand piano that did not cost a fortune?

many factors involved so go listen and you will know when you hear it. Not all expensive Pianos sound good and type of music matters as well.

Many opinions will appear. The Japanese (NOT Chinese) stuff - Yamaha, Kawaii, etc. are all good sounding, with 7ft. being an optimum for 'big bass' on any piano. The asian grands will run anywhere from 3K to 12K for decent used. You may find a European (Bosendorfer) or classic American (Steinway) piano in that range used, but it may be a 'baby'. As far as your question, Yamahas sound brighter than Kawaii, so I like them for most applications, including classical.

as far as yamaha goes, they have the North American mod that is a must for cold countries where heating systems dry the air where your piano will leave through the winter.
Highly recommended for Canada and there for Norway!
Timer is different and the result is a instrument that stays in tune a lot longer and last longer.

What kind of budget do you have for the piano?

"A fortune" is of course a subjective term. Maybe define your price range.

Pianos by Fandrich & Sons
These guys live by me and I know them personally and have some beautiful sounding pianos in the 15-25k range.
