Thread Starter | Noise Reduction Plugins Hello All. I need to buy a noise reduction plugin for my HD system, and am looking for recommendations. Price (i.e. value) is a big factor. All reviews and comments are welcome. Has anyone conducted tests? Here are the choices: Waves restoration bundle $2400 Digidesign DINR $995 Sonic NoNoise $1495 Sony Oxford Restoration Tools $1195 SoundSoap 2 $99 SoundSoap Pro $599 From experience I know the waves plugs are good, but they're so freakin expensive. One of the cheaper ones must be able to compete...?Thanks Adam |

| Sound On Sound magazine did a comparison of the Waves, Sony Oxford and Sound Soap plug-ins in their August issue. This issue also came with a DVD which incorporated sound clips from this comparison. I'd have to say that, judging from the DVD, none of them were particularly impressive considering their price. I'm not sure what else is available on the Mac but I can certainly get better results with the tools built in to Adobe Audition on the PC. Algorithmix, who actually produced the algorithms used in the Waves software, have also done work for companies selling into the consumer market and so it might be worth investigating some of the more consumer oriented restoration software if you want decent value for money. If you want the best results possible then Cedar is still the way to go. Cheers. James. |

| DNR is crap. haven't tried the waves or sony, though i've heard good things about the sony plugs. cedar is spectacular... and spectacularly expensive. --jon

| Lives for gear | I've used the waves and IMO it's great, I saved an otherwise unsuable acoustic guitar track with it that had a lot of computer fan noise but the take had mojo so I tried the waves to see if it would work ... it did and its hard to hear any side effects unless you apply it too much, I know it's not the cedar but it's very usable compared to the DINR plug the waves was more transparent but I don't think you can compare those to a $10k plug in
