Tascam MSR 16 in Chicago area?

I know it's a long shot but I have a client in town recording a cd and he wants to rework a few songs we did on a Tascam MSR 16 over 10 years ago. So I'm hoping to find a studio or somebody with this deck and a decent set of convertors that can transfer the tracks to wave files, probably 2-3 reels worth.

Thanks slutz

I have that machine. I haven't used it in a few years, but it was in great shape when last used. I'm in the Philly area. The last time it was used was for a transfer
to hard disk files. If your tape is 10 years old, you may have a problem with tape shredding. Hopefully not.

Better find out if it was the DBX model or the Dolby S model. Non-compatible.

I might be wrong but I thought Tascam only offered that dolby s option on their one inch 24 track...not the 16 track. The 16 track, especially the one with all those tracks squished on half inch tape was always dbx. I think.

I think your right it had dbx and was recorded with it.. It's been so long that I forgot the 24 track had dolby.

Thanks for the lead but I called them and they got rid of it a while ago.

Try the Tascam analog forums. That place is loaded with reel-to-reel guys.

No, I do believe the MSR16 and MSR24 were available in the optional Dolby S versions, MSR16S and MSR24S.

• FOSTEX G16S & TASCAM MSR16S
These two were the last machines off the Fostex and Tascam production lines, along with comparable 24-track versions which used 1-inch tape and, in their 'S' versions, employed the Dolby S noise reduction system, which is based on the fully pro Dolby SR. I would say that, of the affordable analogue multitracks, the Tascam MSR24S is king, and with one of these in your studio you'd have no excuse for not making great recordings. I can't give you a guide price because I haven't been able to find any up for sale -- which shows that people know when they're onto a good thing. Or perhaps I'm just keeping quiet because I want one for myself and I don't want to stir up the market!
