Which lead to patch external preamp to insert point on audio interface?

I have a Joe Meek preamp with female xlr that I want to plug into the insert point on my Steinberg MR816x. I am not sure what type of jack to have at the insert end as the insert point will accept a ring, tip and sleeve to send out a signal which I obvoiusly do not want.

Can somebody help please?

You don't use pre-amps with inserts. Plug the mic into the pre-amp, plug the pre-amp into the line in on your mixer/interface/whatever.

Inserts are for line level equipment like compresors, gates, and EQs.

If you're trying to run pre-recorded material through the pre-amp, you need to find some kind of re-amp contraption, or just re-amp it.

Oh, and for the record,

Pin #1 = Ground (sleeve)
Pin #2 = Hot (tip)
Pin #3 = Neutral (ring)

Unbalanced inserts
TIp = Send
Ring = Return
Sleeve = Ground

"Two is hot three is not." Sounds stupid, but that's how I remember it. I chant that every time I solder.

Just get an insert y-cable... it has a stereo male plug on one end and two male mono plugs on the other end. I think on my MR816X I have the "tip" going into the insert point.
