Mic stands for accurate mic positioning?

I'm working with some OnStage mic stands with a boom but they're a bit too big and lanky to get an accurate mic position. What mic stands do you use for that? I was thinking of picking up something fairly small.

Maybe something like this. This looks a lot easier to deal with than a tall mic stand with a boom reaching down to the guitar cab. My cab is on the floor on top of an Auralex GreatGramma, so the stand doesn't have to be very tall at all. It's time for me to get something like this that's a bit sturdier.

As you can imagine mic stands are discussed quite a bit on a Forum like this.

A quick search gives up 87 hits.
