de-esser Plugs vs De-essing My Automation

I never really De-esse that much tho more recently Ive noticed the need to do it more..maybe there more esss in the tunes im working on lately...
anyways im wondering what peoples thoughts are on plugs vs automated de-essing?
Ive only tried plugs and got the Massey one....tho they never seem to do the job for me...Im sure Im not seeing the proper freq on the plug but I dont know I dont really think i like what de-essers do to vocals
Thats not saying anything bad against Massys plug in ...im sure just im not working with it right or maybe Im too anal

damn i put my instead of By in the title e

Massey's is the best but I still do it by hand when I have the time.

I actually prefer the Massey to automating volume, for the reason that I can set the plugin to only attenuate the high frequency content of the offending sibilance and leave the "meat" of the consonant intact, whereas automating the volume pulls the entire sound down. YMMV.

It's not just you, I've heard some heavy handed de-essing from time to time as well.
