Thread Starter | EVENT OPALS - more opinions ? I am really thinking of getting these. They are half the cost of BFs and sound to be extremely capable of delivering great sound. Few reviews still though. Who bought them already ? |

| I haven't bought them, but I'm seriously considering it. I was extremely skeptical when I heard about them and didn't expect to be too impressed, but I really was when I heard them. I haven't had the chance to directly compare them to anything else yet but my impression was that they are on par with the other high-end stuff out there, at least that I've heard. |

| They were rather impressive monitors. For the price here they cannot be beat. They have some crystal clear, full-spectrum reproduction. What was most amazing was the highs. They have this sort of presence and air that no other monitor we ran them up against does. In comparison to most they sounded on the 'hi-fi' side to me, but I don't know how that translates to paper specs. I should note that one of the monitor rooms we tried them in they sounded horrid. The reason being? The folks had them set up in a treated room, albeit a corner that bumped up the lows. All other tiny monitors sounded fine because that reinforced a region they lacked. The Opals absolutely muddied out until we set them to 1/4 wavelength mode. So if you have a small or untreated room, it would need some heavy bass trapping to get the very best out of these. They have some amazing low-extension. Also, the transient reproduction is the best I've ever heard in a near-field. Snares would jump out and snap you in the face. I imagine this is due to the insane wattage. The contest for me is between them and KH O300s, but if the O300s are still $3k more expensive then it doesn't remain much of one... They've really packed a lot into a box of that size. They are disgustingly ugly but they bring the goods. |

| I have a pair and they are incredible. Could not recommend them more. Simply INCREDIBLE!!! And I have read some people sold their Barefoots because they preferred these... Now that is epic! |

| Lives for gear | Well Barefoot is just overhyped and overrated and overpriced to begin with. |

| I'm a newbie with them myself.. only had them a few days. But man, do I love them.. there is so much clarity in them.. I'm hearing things I never heard in my mixes, (good and bad). I fully expect these to be the last monitors that I buy.. From highs to lows these things are clear and have a wider range than any of the other monitors I looked at.. the low end is unbelievable. Clear and clean.. can't say it enough how much I like these.

| Have the Opals since Christmas. They are great, many people praise the bass respons. So do I, and I find them maybe even better at acoustic music that dont necessary have that much bass energy, like chamber music... |

| So in short - if i am doing mostly electronic/ambient/experimental music i don't need sub speaker for Opals? I see many of you praise bass response. Is it really that good? |

I currently am still WAY WAY WAY happy with my ASP8's. They have been great and I probably still won't replace them for awhile. I just wish that they had a little more of the deep deep lows in them. If these Opals have that, then I might just jump to them a little bit earlier. | |

| It really is that good. Sounds like a wall of sub lows if you play music with that type of info in it. Quote:

| I had the ASP8, then the Precision 8 which were so much better, and now the Opals which are about 10 times better than the Precision 8. There really is no comparison... totally different league! |
