David Reitzas, question about the mixing of "Ray of light"

David Reitzas, if you´re here and happen to see this... I was looking at the impressive credits on your site and I saw Madonna´s "Ray of light" on the list. As I think that is one of the best sounding modern albums out there (with equally impressive production) I would love to know a little more.

My copy of the album lists no mixing credits so it´s been a little of a mystery to me who actually did it and somehow I´ve been under the impression that Spike Stent mixed parts of the album but that might just be my imagination...

It would be fantastic if you could chime in.

Getting ready for a big string session tonight and I have a vocal session all day tomorrow. I'll try and post some info over the weekend. Thanks for the kudos!

Great!
I am not a Madonna Fan, but "Ray Of Light" is such a great Album, very interesting and so many cool sounds...great mix as well!

If David mixed some songs in that record..did you mix or checked the mix with a sub??

I promise I will respond to this thread in the near future. Please excuse me for not posting something sooner.

Between engineering/mixing and trying to organize a poker tournament for our industry, it's been very crazy/busy.

I've been asked so many times to do interviews for books about Madonna but I've declined them all. I try to avoid using my experience to sell unauthorized books about artists that I've worked with, but I do have a few interesting stories about the making of "Ray of Light" that I'd be willing to share here amongst my peers. Thanks for your patience and I'll be back in a couple of weeks with something.

In the meantime, please check out this video I made about the industry event I'm organizing that is happening on July 19th.
Hey, if you show up at the event, you can ask me anything you want about "Ray of Light" in person.

Thanks!

Why not turn this into a Q&A with Dave Reitzas forum?

Jules? David?

it's actually funny, i was thinking of this thread and put this disc on and was floored by the production of it. i went to try and find it again and the thread was reborn. amazing stuff. i love how much space there was for the vocal and how up front and clear the vocal was. simply amazing. great work DR.

Hi guys,

Thanks for reminding me about this thread. Sorry, everytime I've gotten close to try and write some things, I've gotten busy and then I get distracted with my life outside of mixing.

I've spoken to Jules in the past about maybe doing a Q&A one of these months (if there's enough people that would want to ask me any questions), so I now think that maybe it's better to save the Madonna, Ray of Light questions and other engineering/mixing answers for that time if it's cool with everyone and Jules. (Alan Parsons might be a tough act to follow but we'll see what Jules suggest and I'll keep you informed.

And yes, SP- I have started getting my mind on planning the 2nd annual Recording Industry Poker Tournament. Last year's event at The Village was a big success and we were able to donate a nice bundle of money to a great charity on behalf of the great people in our industry, not to mention that everyone had a blast and the prizes were incredible. I'll start posting in a few week about the details of the event.

So thanks to the OP for bringing up this thread in the first place and to all who have contributed so far.
I'll be back in one way or another and answers will be given.
