Thread Starter | Motu 828 Mk2 - Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 - M-Audio Profire 2626 - Mackie 400f opinions
Looking for a good but simple to use interface for my home studio. Motu 828 Mk2 - Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 - M-Audio Profire 2626 - Mackie 400f. I have narrowed it down to the 4 listed - any feedback would be helpful before I buy one of these? |

Mackie 400f is best sonically (conversion, preamps) but not very expandable. Has inserts which is very cool but no ADAT. Bummer they didn't put ADAT in there - it would be perfect Focusrite has decent pres but terrible drivers M-Audio is sonically very nice also and is more expandable than the Mackie. Compatible with Pro Tools. No inserts. I think the pres are OK but not much headroom. Conversion is nice. MOTU - don't even get me started.

IT DOESN'T F'ING WORK!!! Unnamed Post on MOTU Tech Support |

I got the saffire pro 26 adat'd to my profire 2626. If I had to pick between the 2 I'd probably keep the profire. Both are great but the profire is a bit better in my opinion! I like the dsp mixer software it comes with as well! Saffire pro has phase, 2 inserts (configured by software),mute/dim... of which the profire doesnt have...besides that those 2 are pretty much the same .... just a matter of the sound -n- software and to me the profire's the victor. Close though. Hope that helps a lil' |

Motu sucks, I returned my 828 MK3 after 2 days for a Profire 2626 and couldn't be happier with it.

| If you can find a used 896hd mark 1, it works well with Sonar... Personally, I'd be looking at the Mackie on your list. -tINY |

Thanks for the replies. The other option is the Steinberg MR816x which looks very nice. |
