Why dont we use LDC mics for Stage applications

Why dont we use LDC mics for Stage applications?

Simple question, but It occured to me that while mics like c1000 are very common for use on stage, we rarely use LDC mics with the exception of occasionaly some 414 on piano or cello in theater settings.

Why not mic stuff up with LDC's?

I've seen (live or on film) acoustic type setups use LDCs. As a good example, I believe Emmy Lou Harris uses a U47 on stage. But mainly because they pickup everything in the room and are prone to feedback (in my experience anyhow). Dynamics and small diaphragm condensers seem to be more directional/isolated and or less sensitive (depending on the mic of course). Just overall more controllable.

Feedback... Oh yeah JK

and probably too heavy to mount on light tripod stands for overheads.

Other than that I can't think of any fundemental reasons why not. I might have to experiment some time.

I see LDC used as drum overheads a lot live, especially on TV

It used to be that LDC's were too expensive for stage use, but more and more folks are using LDC's on stage now that the prices are down.

LDC's are, however, usually more prone to picking up sounds that you don't want (other instruments, feedback, crowd noise) than dynamics.
