Thread Starter | Converter question Firepod, SixQ, SPDIF, JetPLL.
So I currently use a presonus firepod (the original version, not FP10) as my front end for recording. I have a JoeMeek SixQ in the mail that I plan to run into the Firepod's s/pdif input. I know that I will then have to set the Firepod's source clock to s/pdif (SixQ) and match the samples rates to get a sync. Here's my question: Do you think the converters on the SixQ are better than those on the Firepod? If so, will using the JoeMeek clock improve performance/lessen jitter on all the Firepod's channels? I ask because if the Firepod converters are better I can just run an analog line out into the Firepod's line in. I am also considering upgrading to the Firestudio Project or Tube to get slightly nicer preamps (xmax) and improved converters with JetPLL for way less jitter (Firepod jitter = 300 ps, Firestudio Jitter <20 ps) . Thoughts? |

I'm sure neither converter will be better enough than the other to tell a difference. Nor will either clock be better than the other. Try lining in and and try entering via spdif, and see what sounds better. P.S. the preamps are not gonna be noticeably better if you upgrade to another crappy interface, save your money and get a good pre (maybe focusrite ISA) with digital output. This way you can clock to it, plus you have the nice preamp. |
