What's the opposite of a 550B?

Hi,

got one more space left in the ol' lunchbox. Wanna grab an EQ and I've already got a 550b (and 512C and 525 and GR500NV). What would be the direct opposite of an 550b, just to make my pallet as wide as possible.
Usage would probably be in a GR500NV - Distressor chain. I'm looking for something extremely colored and mushy (in a good way).

Thanks

Tim

Opposite of a 550b? Probably a digital linear phase EQ. No color whatsoever vs. the API's very colored sound. They're cheap and you'll still have a spot in the rack!

If you can, try out the AVEDIS E27. Not exactly "extremely coloured and mushy" but I have to say it definitley compliments my 550b's..."in a good way"!

I would try out a Purple ODD Four Band [Inductor based], though probably NOT mushy, [or least what I would consider "mushy"] its very smooth/colored, and really musical when you start pushing the bands to do your bidding. Its a really simple equalizer that I think yields some very original flavor that is different from everything else.

I've never thought of 550b's as particularly colored - though I suppose compared to a linear phase eq it would be.

The A-Designs EM-PEQ might be what you are looking for.

Ok, thanks. I was eyeing the Purple. The A-designs is a bit expensive for me now. On a side note, I actually also think the 550b is pretty clean, not clinical or sterile.

Not a 500 series option, but the opposite of a 550B is a Pultec!

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

A-Designs EM-PEQ awesome, buttery, pack a bucket full of MOJO, kicks on bass works on everything.

Arsenal Audio V14 dose not bring to much of s sound to the table, works and sounds great and can offer some degree of surgical use.

Electrodyne 511 very very smooth, broad, not surgical but sounds oh so smooth, drips of cooth.

JLM Audio PEQ500 nit and fat sounding a couple other frequencies then the traditional Pultec design very nice very smooth, and deliver a pile of MOJO.

S&M EQSM1 gives you that sound, a bit of the British EQ for lack of a better word.

Speck ASC-V great EQ, you really do not notice its their, very nice surgical tool, dose it job, and dose a great job of it.

a few i have not had a chance to try, and a few i am not at liberty to talk about just yet.
