Recorded using GS's most hated on mic...

This track was recorded by a buddy of mine using only 1 mic for all tracks. It's easily the most hated mic on GS (wrongly imo). Can you guess what it is (pretty easy for many I'd imagine)? I actually think it sounds great - let me know if you still think the mic deserves all the hate...

Don't have to listen to the file to know you must be talking about the TLM 103...

sounds too good to be an AKG C1000S, so I think you're wrong, you're not using THE MOST HATED mic on GS. The performance is spirited which carries the day.. just confirms what everyone always says about the song mattering more than the gear, that said, there's nothing flattering or impressive going on sonically... it would sound way better with better mics imho.

It's actually the C12VR. I don't think it deserves the abuse it gets on here...

Then it's not THE most hated mic on GS.

The AKG C1000s is absolutely the most hated mic on GS without a doubt.

Maybe it's time for a poll thread?

What is THE most hated mic on GS?

It's gotta be the C1000s.

OK I agree, the C1000 is the most hated mic, but I automatically discounted it as I was only thinking of *useable* mics!

actually i guessed it..you cant see any love for this mic here...I guess it might have something to do about how much it costs, what its trying to mimic and how it sounds. Perhaps if it was a new mic brand costing half....
Anyway, I thought it sounded more than suficient for anyone to focus on the song and enjoy. Nothing special about how good it sounds, but sure nothing that bad to be noticed

I think the AKG Solidtube gets an awful lot of hate around here too. Maybe as much as the C1000.

Like everyone says, a great performance is very forgiving of gear to the average listener.

Having said that, I don't like the highs and sibilances here.

The AKG C12VR is definitely a usable mic. However,it does not deserve to be uttered in the same sentence as the original C12.

After spending 10 mins with it,wouldnt you heap shit on it if the manufacturer you are buying it from tells you its an exact replica of the legendary C12 but with lower self noise.

AKG brought peoples disdain of this mic upon themselves.

One of my favorite recordings I have ever done was on a C12VR, but I would never recommend that mic to anyone. I think there are far better mics for a lot less money, but if some one gave me one, it would would probably get some use around the studio from time to time.

I clicked on this thread because I thought maybe somebody had done something usable with a C1000... Guess not.

Really? I almost never hear anyone mention the SolidTube, be it good or bad.

We got one super cheap a while back and it gets used occasionally... Its not great but its not terrible.

i have used c1000s before with quite acceptable results. i have since moved on to DPA, schoeps, and a variety of other SDCs, but i'll bet you i can make a perfectly decent sounding recording with a C1000 or pair. someone send me one or two, and i will be happy to do a shootout with it against a number of other SDCs and we'll just see who can pick out that mic from the rest in a blind test...
