Thread Starter | which first? eq ? or comp? purchase
I love the MA5, want to find the right comp for it. thinking about the chandler ittle devil coming soon shipping or the inward connections vc500? I also thought about just using the RNC for now? as I love the sound of the ma5 and dont really feel i need to thicken it up much? so I thought maybe to make a strip with the ma5, add the eq e27, and RNC? what do you think of that combo? |

In your shoes, I'd get the comp first, only because I do a good chunk of EQing with mic choice and placement. These decisions are always fun because you'll probably be happy which ever way you go (much better than having to decide what to get rid of). Good luck. |

comp. 100%. speaking for myself, I almost always use plugin eqs since eqs are the one outboard gear that I've so far found to be at least as good in plugin form other than very expensive exotic outboard eqs. and since eq is used on a LOT of tracks, a plugin eq isn't limited to the one hardware unit you have, you can use the same plug on all your tracks with different settings, and plugin eqs don't seem to add latency or use much cpu. and ideal plugin really. compressors are another story. outboard comps are only able to do things that plugs can't, although there are some plugin comps that can be useful for some things too. I mix otb but edit in the daw and do some daw automation and some plugs where they're the best choice. maybe I mix partly itb then otb I suppose. so maybe my situation isn't a good suggestion for you. but for me plugin eqs that emulate hardware (waves ssl and api for obvious examples but there are plenty others) are really very good. cheers, Don |

What are you tracking primarily, and what fits your workflow better? My initial impression of the BAC500 is awesome. War |
