Producing a radio ad with music?

Hi!

I have been asked to produce a 30 second radio ad for a local car dealership in my town. I am wondering how to go about using music in my ad and what the legal rules are on this? Should I just write and record a quick song for the ad myself so I don't have to worry about legal stuff, or should I just fine a piece of music that fits, and if so, how do I cover my butt so that I'm not breaking any laws?

Thanks guys/gals!

you can check out a Production Music Library

they will have music that you can use for a one-time fee, including the legal rights to that music

there are many such places online. They usually have a reduced-quality preview and then if you like it, you buy it and download the HQ version

making custom music is way more fun and of course you can tailor it to client- but it will take a bigger chunk out of your budget.

Side note: Car dealerships are hard to collect from so get some or all your $ upfront.

Hey thanks! I'm actually doing freelance work for a production company in town and the dealership is going through them. So, hopefully they get some of the cash upfront!

Also, how do you guys go about finding decent Voice talent? I can do some myself, but just found out that they are wanting a female voice for this spot! What are some average rates and things like that?
