neutrik np2c vs np2x

Hi!

I'm about to buy a bunch of plugs and some good leads to do my own unbalanced instrument cables.

Are there any practical differences between Neutrik NP2C and NP2X connectors? I suspect the NP2C is older, yet its slightly more expensive. I cannot see any differences aside from the design which draws me towards the NP2X.

Also, do you think that it would worth the extra price to go for gold contacts in the case of these particular plugs? As I see being non-corrosive is the only plus gold could give, but then again, the jack sockets are rarely gold plated, so it would be a half solution at best, not to mention that I've heard gold plating is generally prone to eventually wearing off... Based on these I would choose the no-gold ones. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
j
