Ascap, bmi, sesac

I'm part of ASCAP but am thinking about joining sesac bc i'm maybe that the smaller company can link me up with more writers and take better care of what I need vs. a monolith that (even though they have the majority) only deals with its big clients...

Anyone make the change and see positive results?

What city are you located in ? ASCAP here in L.A. has always been available for me, and any of the writers I know. Have you had meetings with anyone at ASCAP ? been to any events ?

yea, actually just got back from the ascap event in la (im from nyc)

The ny rep does help me out at times, but he's swamped and it seems the producer/writer relationship thing isn't too high on the list .

And the writers I do get are almost always just so-so..
My production is (from the mouths of others) good, but lyrics and melodies are not there.
I'm tired of hearing this same thing from multiple sources...

I just need good writers..
I've given songs that I thought were good to people at Universal, Capitol, EMI pub, as well as various a&r's throughout the industry and they all say the same thing...
"The track is strong but you need to work on the lyrics."
Some have said, "If you can get the right writer, it would be a hit."
I've worked with seemingly hundreds of writers that just weren't good enough, not developed enough or hungry enough.

Their work ethic is not there.. When I say we need to rewrite the 2nd verse bc it can be stronger, they shut down or say no its good enough... They think their God given talent is enough to coast on and they don't need to actually do homework and work on their craft.
They don't understand how hard this damn business is or how good your shit needs to be (if you have no track record) in order to get a placement.
And out of the lot theres maybe a couple, but they're either too hollywood, greedy, undisciplined or ego-inflated to put the time in to get quality finished product.

I do pop-urban, btw, but emphasis more on pop. a la jordin sparks, leona lewis, britney, beyonce, etc...

And you're trying to choose which PRO to join in order for them to link you up with lyricists? First of all, I'm not sure that's their job. Secondly, you can join each one as a publisher and belong to all of them.

Good writing partners are hard to find. Are you a writer or just looking to produce?

no, its not their job, but they do do it.. business-wise its in their best interest to get talented people together to write hit songs..

i don't think you can join more than one at a time..

Good writers are hard to find... the best ones are, of course, writing with the producer du jour and making a killing.. they can pick and choose.. the good ones are also working with A level guys and can be flexible as well...
the politics of the music biz sucks if you're on the outside looking in... you can have the hottest stuff and writers wont even listen to it if the producer doesn't have a track record.

which is why something like ascap can help out..
