Death Metal, Hardcore, and Metal Engineers plz Listen

Hey guys. Hope all is well. I decided to re post this with a more appropriate title.

I have a mix I would like some Suggestions on (Constructive plz)

I mainly mix heavy genre music, so there is alot of going on in most of my mixes

(here is what I would like to know)

1. are the guitars to nasally (if so what would you do to fix)

2. Is the master crunched to hard?

3. What would you change about the balance of the mix?

4.is the overall mix to wet, are there some things I can do to make It seem epic (time based effect wise) without drowning it in effects?

5. anything else you would like to add

Here are the links:

Thanks for all your advice, I have always been happy with the results I have received from this message board.

I'm just replying to flag this message basically so I remember to reply later after I get a chance to listen. Also I think this probably belongs in that other forum where you can ask advice on your mixes...

The main thing I notice right off the bat is that the guitars don't sound very big. There is one point where you panned them out a lot and that sounds good. You should do that more with the rest of the guitars. I liked on the tail end of certain sections you would wetten it up with an effect. The solo sounded a little dry for a solo. For the current mix as it is I don't think the guitars are too nasally. A lot of the guitars do sound a little thin though.

Pretty cool though. I'm digging the quirkyness of it all... The snare reverb doesn't sound right for this song though.

sweet thanks for the tips. to make the guitars bigger I would assume either turning them up or adding some lower mids.

what reverb for the snare do you think would work better?

Thanks again to all that have posted!!

I thought the guitars were a bit too mid-scooped

I wouldn't add lower mids... In fact I don't think I'd ever add lower mids to a crunchy guitar sound...

I would just have a certain guitar part (the main rhythm part) double tracked and panned hard left and right...

Thanks for the heads up!

I am about to do some re-amping for some other songs.

I might just go ahead and re-amp the guitars on this song again.

That snare is wrong in so many ways... guitars: yes, they need to be bigger... panning? they sound like recorded in the basement. The whole mix needs some carefull tuning I think. but strangely, i kinda like it anyway

That would be my solution. And double track. Or quadruple track .

I am glad you enjoyed it clan!

Could you be more specific on why my snare sounds wrong?

The guitars are quad tracked (but what level do you guys ussually have them?). Do you keep the level of the quad track the same as the first 2 gtr tracks. or are they at diff levels?

clan you said there was alot of little things I should tweak on the mix. Could you be more specific. (without breaking my heart, HAHAHA, Joking, I am tough as nails)

It sounds pretty good, but I agree that the guitars need some more balls. The high end on them sounds good, but there's some good stuff missing from the lower mids that'll help thicken things up. And turn them up a bunch. They're really quiet in relation to the drums/vocals.

Also, pan them wider, or just keep them mono.

I'd lose the snare reverb. The drums sound cool, but you need to fill in everything else to balance it out.

Thanks Recycled Brains!

I'll try lighting up the snare verb a bit.

I will work on the guitars and put a new mix up here soon.

Thanks again everyone for their responses!

The guitar body lies within the midrange

well... the guitar tracking could have been done better, experiment with different sounds (guitars, amps etc.) and layer em. Regarding the snare: I would scoop a lot of 500 Hz moderate Q, boost 1 kHz with a very high Q and lose almost everything below 100-200 Hz. Regarding the little things: that is mixing my friend. It just may be what you like, but I would do a lot of tweaking to this. But like I said, f*ck me if you like it (since this is about metal i can say f*ck right? )

Kick @ss Clan! Thanks for the heads up.

I really like the fact that whats some folks cup of tea is others frosty brain freeze

I will apply a little eq to the snare and see what I can get.

I am continually learning every time I re-amp so my be I can get a better guitar sound.

Fatten up the guitars, thats not pop man
How was the position of mic and which mic did u use? (try to use an carpet under the guitar cab and maybe absorbers around the cab, it sound to roomy, be careful with the phase)
The solo is not that good played at begining...
But anyway good job...
