| Lives for gear | Small company making guitar effects? Good idea?
I have had an idea in the back of my head for years now. Its only a matter of time before this little idea is figured out by Boss or someone. I have a redesign of a pedal to fit the modern professional guitar player. It all happened when I went to an antique store and found a pedal. I was thinking its the same dang design for 60 years... I know my off the shelf effects now days are kind of crappy and I was surprised how cheap they are when you open them up! There is one effect like my design but its WAY OFF, its just not good its just kind of the same, more gimmicks in a different shape where mine is a complete removal of the gimmick! I dont want to say to much until I can get one built and have something to actually patent or submit or market. My design would be simple, sexy and I dont want to give out my secret but its different! Im building one prototype for my self. Its completely improved guitar pedal, analog, individual effect, not digital. Its going to be an instant "Why did I not think of that" and "Gimmie one NOW" Its got no gimmicks and would be pure quality. Any ideas or thoughts? Should I do a computer model and patent the idea or should I make a web site and make them one by one by hand with my friend and partner?

| Gear nut |
you can't patent a guitar effect it's all going to be based on typical circuits that have been around for 50+ years. Unless it's very revolutionary then still someone in china will steal it or germany i.e behringer for lower then you could make it and drive you out of business. Other countries have much more laxed copyright/patent laws so basiclly your screwed don't bother why do you think everyone goes dsp and software the code is actully easier to copyright and take to court then any physical design good luck, but I wouldn't bother

Well I could sell the design to Beringer? Or keep it mom and pop? Its just such a cool idea and the circuits are not what im building rather the idea concept. O well, im building one for my self because of the bother Iv had with a certain pain in the ass effect we all have and have had the same complaint. Its a 50 year old issue. |
