pro tools issue

Hello, i'm using a digi 003 (bla modded) with a focusrite isa 428 and api3124 and a great river mp 2nv.

i was tracking some vocals yesterday via my GR, with the monitors on in the my mixing room at medium volume and the vocalist in the room with me also, with a sm7b.

i noticed on the wave that was recording that it didn't slightly correspond to what the vocalist was singing, especially when he went for the screamier/louder parts (punk band)

and the wav in protools was actually showing as no audio being there, but on playback there was audio there, this has thrown me back and i don't know why it's done that... any experiences with this?

slightly concerned me as i was hesistant to continue with the session incase of an error with PT or my hardware.

could it be some kind of phase relationship with monitors being on etc? i really wouldnt know !

anybody with any help i'd love for you to chime in !

thanks in advance.

Do you have a pretty fast system? Were you tracking to the internal drive?

Could be that PT is having an issue rendering the waveform overview.

i was tracking to a gtech EXT HD, and i have a brand new macpro - is this a common occurance? the session did have a few plug ins here and there etc, but nothing over the top, wasn't even a large track count really either. possibly 24/25 tracks?

never came across this before !

And your waveform vertical zoom wasn't out all the way right? ...because you saw the waveform when done tracking?

nope, when done tracking it was the same, which is bugging me big time.

occasionally it would show a waveform but it sort of beared no relevance.

It sounds ok when played back?

Recalculate the waveform overviews...

I am not in front of PT right now but I believe select the region then its an option in the regions list drop down.

awesome, i'll try that when i get back to my room, i hope that works. been niggling at the back of my mind that perhaps is a fault with my gear!

and yeah it plays back perfectly fine to me.

also does anybody know what could be causing this? it's never happened before to me.

It's definitely a software issue. Maybe after you refresh them they will work fine after that. If not, maybe try a reinstall after deleting preferences as well...

I hear you, I've had some major hardware issues recently where I think I'm on my 3rd pro-tools HD reinstall in a month.

...I think everything is good now though.

i have the same problem sometimes!

i think it may be a bug in 7.4..

id have to zoom in quite a bit before the wave form matched the audio.

i think its a software thing.
it only does it on 7.4

and it only happens sometimes.

the things i'd do for a HD system, THE THINGS I'D DO.

shame that !!

and i am running 7.4, so that makes me feel a little bit better! but it's quite a big bug! i should really upgrade to 8, but i've just spent way more on outboard stuff and new monitors! so that'll have to wait!

It's a well known 7.4 bug, it happens on HD rigs too, re-installing PT won't fix it, and PT8 appears to be fine so far.

Can someone make this a sticky please? It's a tricky thing to search for, but it's come up on here about 4 times in the last couple of months!

Nuendo to protools

Hi we r new and this is probably the wrong place but hav been flailing abt trying to find the right spot and not ask the same dumb Q thats been posted a zillion times...

We hav tracked and automated a pile of songs using nuendo 3, currently running via an emu 1616m.
The big thing is that the automation is major. We r jammers and work on a 5% basis which means we have to loose 95% = lots of work on the faders.

We want to take the songs into a studio so an engineer can run them thru a desk and tweak them up a bit. Problem is the emu only has 6 phono outs and most tracks are more than this - up to 18. Also everyone around here just has protools. Knowing nothing we thought we cud pump it over via the s/pdif into protools thence the desk, is this possible? The more one thinks abt it the less likely it becomes.

Only other option that pops up is to hire another interface anybody with a better idea?

Bounce all your individual tracks down to wav files of the same length and put them on a cd or dvd then take them to a pro tools studio or whatever you need to do with them and upload the wav files into a new pro tools session.

I've seen this too a couple of times on sessions given to me from a 7.4 system. I'm using 7.1 - in my case I've noticed that if you zoom in really close then all of a sudden the waveform looks the way its supposed to

It's a well known bug in 7.4. have seen it a couple some times. Have had a couple of sessions on 7.4 that this happend, but opning a new session it was ok again. Try to consolidate the region, and the the waveform should match again...

try instaling the latest cs update, it should have some fix for this.

have not seen it in PT 8 !

Waveform overview

Definately the waveform overview. just select all the regions that are messed up or hit RETURN on a mac to go to top of the session and then press "APPLE A" to select all regions. Then go to your region bank window on the right hand side of the EDIT windown. Right-Click and select "RECALCULATE WAVEFORM OVERVIEWS." BINGO! should be all set after that. Happens to me a lot. When it does, it's annoying and frustrating, but it gets the job done when I just do that.
