Have you compared the Peluso 22 251 vs. the AKG 414 XL II (TL II) on Vox and OH?

Hello

I’m planning to buy one of these mics to use on vox (covering that part of voices like most of females and some tenor males) and on Drum Overheads (adding another one later to make a pair).

Just before you to say: I’ve done lots of reading on the forum and no, it’s not possible to compare them by myself.

I know that the 414 XL II is rather new, so maybe most of you will have the TL II. Ok. I can assume the small (if any) difference that seems to be between them so:

Have anyone of you compared the Peluso 22 251 vs. the XL II or TL II on vox?

…. and what about Overheads?

Than you.

The TLII is brilliant, useful for everything, it is a neutral sounding mic IMO, which makes it very useful. For vocals, its too mellow for some folks.

I have a TLII and a Peluso 2247, in most apps the 2247 beats the TLII

The TLII, like any other mic, can be great with some vocalists and terrible on others. I've got one singer who just sounds amazing through the TLII. It's also very useful as drum overheads and piano micing. An engineer who uses my studio regularly always uses the TLII's as his overhead mic pair.

Thanks.

The 22 47 is more hyped.
Hard to compare two very different sounding mics.
If you want a low mid bump and sizzling top the Peluso is for you.
If you want something a little more flat and clear the 414 is for you.
I find both useful.
The 414's would be a good choice for overheads IMO.
The Peluso is great for that bigger than life vocal sound.
It can be spitty on some female vocals.
Depends on what you need and what you're going for.

Hey Winey. I'm not talking about the 22 47 but about the 22 251 wich is suposed to be akg-ish (neutral, present, clear, bright).

I'm in disagreement with most in this thread: I hate the TLII. I think it's pretty worthless. Perhaps I just suck, but I can't make it work and I've been trying for a long while now. Please, no flames; just my opinion. Seems to lack "focus" farther away (I do a lot of classical stuff) and _sounds_ (perhaps not is) "phasey". The low end is dumpy and forced; the highs are thin and annoying.

As bad as I think the TLII is, I feel the XL versions are worse. I've tried very hard to make these work to no avail.

Although I've no experience with the Peluso, if all I had to choose from were these two, I suppose I'd try the Peluso.

Try a 414EB instead. Maybe a ULS, if you have to.

DD.

I don't know how I misread this.
Sorry.
