I've got one I'm selling, because it's tax time!

Really love it on Drum Overheads, Acoustic guitars, Bass, Snare, Bk VOX,
Never tried it on Electric guitars...?
Maybe I'll give it a go later today.

haha... we're already in contact over e-mail about purchasing this unit.

just did a post here on using it for EG bus as that would be one of the desired applications. I've done some research on the forum and a lot of people love it on vocals and bass, especially for tracking.

I'm curious about using it on my guitar sub group during mixdown.

rock n' roll!

It can be very cool on gtr bus. i tend to use it in parallel on gtr bus more often.

The Langevin ELOP is really cool, as it has a very different character than others. I would definitely recommend checking out the Dual Vocal Combo, which has the ELOP limiter built in. Not to mention you get some awesome mic amps and EQ's. Overall, the Langevin stuff is excellent for the dough.

funny thing is I used to have the dvc. lovely unit. I never used the limiter much though as I was just beginning recording and was too scared to hit it hard (or the eq for that matter). I do remember slamming a piano track once with the limiter, which was pretty cool, and using the eq for subtle boosts and tweaks during vocal tracking. again, years ago and I can't exactly remember.

I'm assuming the limiter section is identical based on your note.

thanks guys!

Correct! But the DVC is two times the product, while its only 200$ more than the Langevin ELOP.

Opposite experience here. :-) I have the DVC and I only ever use the limiter, via the TRS inputs which bypass the pre-amp. The DVC's a great value though for those who need the pre-amps, as it's only about $100 or something more than the ELOP alone. [$200 more - corrected by Adam above.]

BTW I asked Hutch once about the Langevin circuit. The Langevin and Manley ELOPs are identical in every way until the make-up gain amp, which of course is tube in the Manley, solid state in the Langevin. Every now and then you'll hear someone talk about how they believe they can get more compression out of one box versus the other. But, the GR circuits are exactly the same. I went with the Langevin because to me it sounds cleaner. Big fan of this limiter.

cool.. thanks again.

don't need the pres or eqs at the moment, and the unit is used, so maybe a better deal to go with the limiter only.

rock on!

+1 on the DVC. My first decent piece of outboard ever, and it's still kickin' strong in the rack. We've got a Manley Elop here too and the DVC still gets used......although not as much as it used to.

IMO the Langevin line is generally a solid buy. I wish there were more reviews/info on the Langevin EQP1-A.

In my signal chain I need a good sounding limiter before the master stereo outs, so I just got a Langevin ELOP. I have a dbx 166xl now. As soon as the Lang gets here that dbx is going to ebay.

sure the Langevin stuff is great but the real question is

Why are you compressing elec guitars?

Im not an audio engineeringologist or anything, but electric guitar sounds pretty compressed to me coming out of the speaker. Possible a combination of the fact that guitar pickups dont allow for a large dynamic range, tube amplification/distortion, and heavy speaker compression... possibly.

But hey, what do I know.
