Public Image ltd "Album" Cassette" "CD" etc - yeah!

Forgotten gem - loving this!

Would love to know more about Bill Laswell's methods - Love the approach to the drums

Some great tunes on this one and great snarling vocal performances.

Love the vocal treatment on "Home"

Top notch musicians -

Vai doing some really interesting stuff - Great tone from his batterd green meanie (what has happened since? )

Ginger Baker!

Yeah - I don't think he toured with them though.

-

Loads of room sound/reverb on the drums - but it doesn't bother me!

"Home" one of my favourite tracks of all time. Love the drum sound but the vocals are everything in this track.

Thumbs up

yeeeaaaAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!

This is totally one of my fave Vai records of all time. I bought it as a cassette in 1985, right after it came out, then in CD format later.

I love how it exists as "Album," "Cassette," and "Compact Disc" as a generic album title, dependent upon release format--its artwork, I think, based on '80s-era GENERIC BEER! Remember that???

AWESOME guitar stuff--great "part" playing throughout. Tons of cool, mult-tracked parts. And his solo on "Ease" is beyond sick. I think that's actually the only "proper solo" on the whole disc. NICE!

Hellz yeah. I was just listening to the PIL record yesterday. Anyone ever think the guitar sounds from PIL are very close to the guitar sounds of U2? Yet both bands started around pretty much at the same time.

I'm going to have to slightly disagree. I love Laswell's work but to me this isn't one of his best efforts - and far from PIL's best either. The real great PIL stuff was when Jah Wobble and Keith Levene were in the band - producing some crazy dub skronk that was definitely both of its time and ahead of it at once.

Best regards,
Steve Berson

Didn't know that Miles Davis did some cuts for PIL - found this:

"Davis collaborated with a number of figures from the British new wave movement during this period, including Scritti Politti.[10] At the invitation of producer Bill Laswell Davis recorded some trumpet parts during sessions for Public Image Ltd.'s Album album, according to Public Image's John Lydon in the liner notes of their Plastic Box box set. In Lydon's words, however, "strangely enough, we didn't use (his contributions)." (Also according to Lydon in the Plastic Box notes, Davis favorably compared Lydon's singing voice to his trumpet sound.)"

this is the only record with vai on it that I still come back to. vai only acts as a musician when domesticated by somebody with authority like zappa or laswell. eat em and smile was on ok record too, but everywhere else he forgets the music and can't stop saying me, me, me, me....

Great album, though in my opinion their first album is unrivaled.

I guess it's all a matter of taste, but I like the drums least on "Album". That gated, compressed snare was so overused back then...guitars sound pretty good, though Vai is no Keith Levine...I could be wrong, but I detect a bit of a "cocaine" vibe on this one compared to the others.

^ Yeah the drums have that "Power Station" vibe, but it doesn't bother me prolly cos of the overall performance and other sonic stuff
