Interesting way to check a mix for bass ... anyone tried this?

I stumbled across this method while finding the right tempo for the song I was working on. This is how it goes: If you change the playback rate of the song (say in reaper from 1 to 1.3), you can instantly hear if bass and kick are sticking out too much or are too low (balance wise).... Has anyone else tried it? ....I tried it on a few mixes and I'm really happy with how the results sound. I can totally understand why it should work in theory (we hear mids better, and playback rate changes the bass from lows to low mids), but I'd like to see if others find it useful as well. This should also help people with no sub woofers... Please give me feedback .... maybe It's a standard practice and I'm just making a fool out of myself.

or rather pitch it up so you can hear the mistakes. (bumps against mic stand etc.)
for mixing it's not going to work, I'm afraid.

That is just attempting to make up for the inequities of the room/monitors, no?

Which do you really trust then, normal or fast?

Neat idea, but I only trust the song in the form that the end listener will hear.

Anything else is out of context, guesswork, speculation... extrapolation.

This is just to get a quick check ... I'm not suggesting one mixes the whole song with it.... Try it and see if it works... Just looking for some feedback especially by people who're willing to try it.

Well you trust whatever translates well everywhere... yes you are trying to make up for the inequities of the room/monitors + it gives you fresh perspective too!

That's my take too. When you change the pitch of a tune, you change the relationship between the kick and bass frequencies and the room's resonances which stay constant. There are lots of tricks like this that can help, but the only sure cure is making the room as flat as possible, and of course using good loudspeakers.
