RME Fireface 800 pres or Golden Age Projects Pre-73

Any of you out there have any experience with both of these pres?

I have the ff800, and I'm not that crazy about the preamps. I am thinking about getting a pre-73 to chain to the ff800, as a low cost alternative for now. I heard good things about the pre-73 so I might want to get one , for bass guitar, acoustic guitar, and perscusions. I only do single track recording. The ff800 preamps sound thin and almost lifeless. hate to say it that way. I like my ff800 as a whole, but the pres compared to my previous UA solo 610, or even my previous transparent Grace M101 (both sound in a different class), that's the way I have to describe it.

Another alternative I am thinking about is getting the BLA mod for my ff800, anyone want to give me some feedback on my best alternative here? I want to spend around $500.00 for now.

So, what did you do in the end?

could anyone else chime in on whether they like the ff 800 preamps more in comparison with the gap pre 73? Wanted to start a thread but saw this one, so here it goes!

thanks already

I've got an RME babyface and I preferred the pres on it over my Pre73 which has now been sold. To my ears the Pre73 was mud even on the cleanest settings.
