I like my 4060 on voice....haven't really used for much of anything else (I don't tend to use large diaphragm mics for instruments...maybe I should give them a try more often). It'd probably be quite good on kick drum though as it can handle pretty high SPL....you wouldn't need a mic pre for that app, just connect the output from the PS to your line in and go!

Cheers,

Kris

Congrats! I'd probably use the AT4060 on damn near everything except maybe guitar cabs since you've got an R84 on the way. Really a good all rounder. Having said that, even when you're using the R84 I would use a good pop filter in front of it on any source just in case. And I wouldn't let singers work real close with it either unless you're looking for a pretty big proximity effect.

In my (fairly small) room, I use a "Max Wall" type of foam deal behind the R84 when mic'ing up cabs, placed to the rear of the mic. The side rejection of the R84 is so good that this will net you a very tight sound in most cases.

Experiment with both sides of the R84, they will net you somewhat different response.

I dunno...other than that stuff I'd say have fun!

Thanks guys! I've been liking the 4050 on drums lately. Using that with a MP of Josephsons and it gives me a nice balance between bright and dark. Although I'll be really curious to try both the 4050 and 4060 as OHs.

Today is a good day. Was purchasing on a grant at the university and just found out that I have an extra 3.5 K to spend beyond what I've already got on the way.

Just used the 4060 on acoustic gtr and it sounded fantastic. Also sounds great on most vocals.

I've only had mine a couple weeks and am only concerned that it sounds good on my voice. Everything else will be icing on the cake. I'll have a chance to try it on a
Martin acoustic next week - might as well give it a try.

It has been a few years since I had one, but I've always wished I had a chance to try it on percussion instruments, such as congas and timbales. I have a feeling it would shine there.
