I almost don't care what it is. For $2500 dollars it sure would look sexy in the rack.

Funny how some around here would be happy paying up to 3k for a single compressor or preamp and complain that this new SSL puppy at under 2k doesn't include EQs on every channel

I think it's a great product for its target market and a great little swiss-army-knife type of tool for many applications. If the pots, metal, circuitry and sound are up to SSL specs, this little thing will be worth it for its center section alone.

An 8ch mixer with st cue+2fx sends and 100mm faders, pre/post direct outs, inserts, ALT inputs, SSL's "CH-in CH-out" path for simultaneous tracking and DAW monitoring (guess from the pictures), sends and returns with AFL and a pretty decent master section with talkback, all with the SSL pedigree for under 2k? Not too bad.

You're right about that one... SSL and OTHER gear in love with each other is the thing. That's the reason! Hopefully this will be the answer!!

Dude, you must really be excited about selling some of these... getting one or more for yourself, or both.

I'm guessing you've posted more in one day than you have in the last few months combined!

Yes! Well I think it's an important product. What else can you buy that's built to the same spec as a Duality and sounds as good as one, with faders, for under 2k?

What do the knobs in the top right corner do? Are they all for the aux sends or are there any return paths there as well?

Yes, like you can route input b to the stereocue on a matrix. 8+8, + 2 stereo aux returns makes 20. at least....it looks ike that. There is an "alt" switch at the input section....

Post....maybe direct outputs on the back?

Also an Ipod input (mini-jack) on the right side if i'm right....

Looks like the rack ears could come off so you can have it on your desk if you need.

Do you mean that is has the same transistors and op amp in the signal path as the Duality? That would be almost too good to be true !

**disclaimer. not all of this is confirmed**

so here it is, In Brief:

New compact and very flexible, high quality SSL "Superanalogue" mixer.

Per Channel:
Two selectable line-level inputs, level gain with peak, balanced insert point, pre/post direct out, stereo CUE, 2 FX sends and 100mm fader

Master section includes:
-master sends for the CUE and FX, all with AFL
-2 stereo returns with level+pan, mono and AFL switches, routable to CUE (FXed cue) and MIX
-Rotary master fader, master insert point with sum
-Talkback mic with level
-Monitoring section with st external input, Dim with level, CUT and mono. Stereo LED meters
-Phones out selects between main monitoring and artist send (CUE). iPod input

In use. Tracking:
Ext preamp outputs go into each channel's main line level inputs, where level is adjusted via a gain pot and a selectable insert point can be thrown into the path for external comp/eq. From there the direct output sends the signal to tape, either pre or post fader, the latter for fader riding to tape if desired. Channel's signal is then sent to artists via a pre fader stereo CUE, and thru the fader+pan to the monitoring mix. FX returns can be routed to CUE so wet vocals can be sent to phones.
DAW returns can be connected to the channel's 2nd input, wich can be put into the channel's path (either/or) by a simple switch, allowing quick source/tape comparisons and tracking to mixing mode changes.

In use. Mixing:
DAW returns go into the main path, with available insert point for ext comp/eqs. 2 FX sends available per ch. ST CUE can be set post father for further sends as well as the direct out, either pre/post, also used for additional (external) routing if required.
Each channel's ST CUE section (Pan+Level) can be fed from the unused input in every channel, thus doubling the total amount of available inputs as the master CUE send can be routed to the mix on the master section.
Two stereo fx returns are summed to the mix and the main mix has an insert point for st mix comp/eq, which can be not just inserted but also summed (read parallel compression), or as addtitional external st input.
Monitoring (2 selectable speaker outputs) can be made out of a mix of internal and external inputs, and there are controls to dim, mute and mono the mix. iPod input also available to monitors.

All pretty much after usual SSL flexibility. For the first time, at this quality level, at an unprecedent price point.

If you're right about this, then my search for an analogue mixer is over and I can actually start building the frame for my new console.

There will be likely be other products released over the next year with similar if not more functionality (6 aux sends!) for less money. So don't go blowing your tax refunds just yet. That's all I'm saying.

Brad,

If you stop one person from buying an X-Desk by your post you're reducing Jim's commission check .... (and possibly mine)

The least you can do is back up your statement with facts?

Nope I really can't.

It's not too hard to see that people are getting back into consoles. There is a revival afoot. So if you are not in a rush just wait to see what happens.

I'm sure this new X-Desk will sell like hotcakes...it looks really purty. It will be in all those studios that have U87's, Avalons, and Digi002's.

People want the world for $2k.

SSL should at least give you the empty X-rack for free if you fill it up with modules. The price for that empty box is way too much. If u want 8 channels of x-rack eqs and comps plus the fader pack u talking around $19000. If you want 16 channels you mine as well get a used aws900.

With all that said I would buy 16 channels of this X-Desk though to come OTB with after I hear one since they are cascadable.
