Save to use headphone output

Hi all
Is it normally safe to use the headphone output from mixers to send a signal to powered monitors (studio) or a powered monitor (wedge) for stage?
Can this connecting cause damage to anything or is there anything to be aware of?

Cheers
Kim

i assume that it will overpower the input stage of the active monitoring section.
most pa systems/active monitors require line level, don t they ?
