Johnny Greenwood guitar sound in "House of Cards"

Does anyone know how he gets that incredible guitar sound in Radiohead's House of Cards?

I know there is a Space Echo involved, but does there seem to be anything else? It's one of the greatest guitar sounds I've heard.

YouTube - House of Cards - Radiohead live from the basement

Bumbity bumb....

I know his guitar rigg, and I am modding out my rig to be similar within the next couple months... I will play around and see what I get. I will let you know if I get close.

If you want his rig there are several websites on it, but it's always hard to tell how he uses it... Greenwood is a WIZZARD.

he's scratching the strings with the side of his guitar pick

that's just space echo with reverb

why not doing something that's not already been done ?

false, he uses a coin and uses it to scratch the string, almost like david gilmour from pink floyd does in "echoes"

I never said I wanted to do that sound. I just asked how it was achieved as it was an interesting sound to me.

Sure, lets go ahead and record a whole album with a 57, and get a grammy for it

By following the direction of this thread, I have concluded that gearslutz is weird

BTW I agree with the OP..it is an amazing tone, and is worth seeking out..most all of Radiohead's tones are. I've been in love with the clean tone on "Scatterbrain" from Hail to the Thief for about 5 months..

Volume pedal, Space Echo, Reverb, creative playing/string-scraping.

Man, you think this is weird? Stick around, it gets better.

For instance, check out the "Russian VLF" thread going on right now.
