Thread Starter | Is Stephen Sank still doing mods? Hey there. Just wondering if Mr Sank is still doing his RCA ribbon mods to Beyer mics? If so, does anyone know how to get a hold of him? I can't seem to track down a website, etc. Thanks in advance for any info. jb |

| Take a look at this thread... My experience some years ago was not great. Perhaps things have changed. But my experience with Clarence Kane has been that he is excellent and responsive. This has been discussed in the past at this thread. |

| +1 I had a m260 DX (Sank modifies) that was not fantastic at all, original Beyer "piston type" ribbon are better than the 77dx ones in the Beyers. I would opt for a Beyer specialist more than a RCA specialist for that task. |

Thread Starter | Interesting. I was thinking of sending a Beyer 260 for the RCA ribbon mod (not simply to fix it). I have a M160 (love it, don't want to touch it), but I've read on this site that the Sank RCA mod gave it a character somewhat similar to RCAs (I only have experience with the 77DX). Thought I'd give it a try. |

| I just bought an RCA 77DX of ebay... I hear little distortion in the output; does it need a re-ribbon? And who can you recommend? I was thinking on sending it to Proaudioheaven, Stephen Sank. Any suggestions what it can be? Thanks! |

| Stephen has reribboned an RCA74B for me. Also rebuilded/modded a TLA 4 ch pre. Both are excellent, though the 74B really sounds lo-fi (bad in a good way IMO). He also modded two Grundig ribbons for me which I haven't used that much, but those worked great on a horn section I recorded I while ago. The most recent he did was rebuilding/modding an RCA OP-6 pre that I bought on eBay. Unfortunately I'm having a problem with that one, but he has been very helpful in the process of solving the problem. Worst case I'll just have to send it back for service. I don't have much to compare to so I shouldn't say too much here...but if we're talking reribboning of RCA mics I can recommend him without any doubt. |

| When Stephen lived in Albuquerque, I brought my Beyer M260 to his house (on my way to a NAMM show) and I watched him as he changed it to an RCA 77 ribbon. Amazing skills and amazing results.
