Pacific LX snare. Worth upgrading?

I'm trying to round out my snare collection with a nice maple snare. I purchased a pacific lx snare awhile back at GC for 100 bucks before I really got into snare "sounds" versus cost. Would puresound snare wires and some nice heads give me a respectable wood snare or should i sell and go for a vintage luddy or slingerland etc? I already have an aluminum 70's 5X14 acrolite and a steel 6X14 pearl export.

keep it AND get something metal-shelled.

Look on ebay/craigslist/drumforum.org and find an Acrolite cheap - who cares what it looks like.. spend $100 or less. Throw a coated Ambassador or Emperor on it, tune it up and be happy.

Next step, take off the batter head on that LX and give the bearing edge a close looking at - does it feel REALLY smooth? If not, take some FINE sandpaper or steel wool and go over it.. then give it a little wax if you like. Throw a good head on it and you should be golden. You PROBABLY do not need to do anything to the edge on that snare, but just giving you something else to look at. Puresounds are a bit pricey, but they are very good.

Head over to drumforum - they're pretty helpful on stuff like this.
