Digital EQ Fact & Myth. - signaltonoize.com

Just stumbled across this while looking for some impulse responses.

Lots of examples...

Are you guys STILL going to keep buying every $600 waves package they throw out there with a nice vintage GUI?

(edit: I know the title should say PEQ for accuracy, but liking the sensationalism of my current title so I'm keeping it).

This guy provided proof, but no matter what, I'm sure someone will come in claming they can hear a difference. Oh well... there's that "X" factor, the distortion that changes everything

Sweet post. Thanks for this although I've been more than happy with my filterbank.

No more excuses to look for anything else.

Thanks for posting that. I knew I read it a while ago. I'm just sick of all the snake-oil salesmanship going on around here and didn't realize it was you who started the thread and made that blog post.

Anyway, thanks for dispelling a lot of myths and revealing how bad manufacturers are shafting people.

A good saturation program + any good eq should do the job for most people, as you suggest.

As a myth buster, this was one of the more significant threads in GS history. It deserves being re-iterated, and often!

Thanks again.thumbsup

Thanks for posting the article

I have always fealt that any fully parametric EQ should be able to emulate ANY vintage simulation plug

The problem is I don't want to spend countless trying to perfectly match the EQ curves of every vintage unit.

Each of the vintage plugs have all of the EQ curves preset and ready to roll and if you like the EQ curves that a particular vintge unit has it is much easier to manipulate then a trying to get a parametric EQ to match perfectly. Not to mention the fact that if you were trying to knock off a vintage simulation plug you would have to own the plug in the first place to try and always match it - so what is the point of that ?

So can a a parametric match any vintage simulation plug - IMO Yes - but it is not as practical or efficient in real world use.

ALSO

People get used to using and tweaking presets with new EQ's - So while it is possible to match the presets you kind of have to own the plug in the first place to have the time to try out all the presets and then perfectly match them - again - not really a practical solution IMHO

I rock with my cubase plugs, i love em, i have a bunch of free plugs as well. The the GUI means nothing to me, I rocked with nugen free stereo plug since day one, and the GUI looks bad, but who cares its a great stereo spacer
