| Unfortunately, you'll need to purchase a rather inexpensive PCI FW card to get this working correctly. That is, if you have a Desktop computer, other wise I'm afraid you should be looking into USB devices.

| A PCI or PCIe (depends on your computer)card will do the trick. Lots of options and fairly cheap, too. |

| If it's a normal pc with a pci slot you can buy a firewire card. There is no real solution otherwise i think. |

| If using a laptop you can also pick up a PCMCIA firewire card which works, used to use one of those when i had my firepod, worked out pretty well |

| If its a desktop you can stick a FW PCI card in there without a struggle. The Motu stuff is really not that great sounding in my experience. Don't count on Tech support for any product they make. I think that's why the drivers they make actually work. Its like they put the money in on the software, and pay the monkeys and orangoutangs bananas to answer the phones [which they never do].

| S/pdif...you can go out the motu into DAW via s/pdif... ...and I totally agree with Adam here...I own a ultralite, have had it about a year, upgraded to the latest drivers a month ago and now the firewire port no longer sends data (it sends and receives power but no data), anyway spent weeks playing the fugging "techlink" game with MOTU finally told them I was fed up and not an idiot to call me or I would file a lawsuit...bottom line is they say its a hardware issue (it worked fine before the driver update)____(I do think it is a hardware issue but its odd it worked before the update)...it will cost me $99.95 to have it repaired/refurbished/replaced.... In the other column is the fact that the newer drivers actually raise the latency...so the software orangutans are working back-ass-wards if you ask me... I know a lot of people swear by MOTU, but if you are PC I would avoid them like the plague.

| thats for the replies....I am not married to the idea of getting an ultralite, its pretty much based on what I have most....Most people tell me that the ultralite is the way to go for a small home DAW based studio. Any suggestions on what to get? Not looking to spend any more than what the ultralite costs... thanks guys |
