Setting up a compressor on the 2 buss in Pro Tools as a Hardware Insert?

Can someone kindly explain how to go about using a hardware compressor on the 2 buss
of Pro Tools by using it as a Hardware Insert. What would the actual hardware chain be?

You just patch your hardware into any 2 inputs and outputs. Like 1 and 2 analog or 1 and 2 adat or whatever. I'm speaking from an le user point of view.

Then just chose those i/o ports on any master insert.

I do it all the time with my Fatso.

In PT you must use the same i/o ports on your interface for both the D/A and the A/D side when hooking up a hardware insert.

So, for example, you would do the following:

1. Connect two channels of your D/A (for this example we'll choose ports 7&8) to the inputs of your compressor

2. Connect the outputs of your compressor to two channels of your A/D (you must use the same port numbers so in this example you'd choose port 7&8)

Go under the Setup menu in the PT software and choose I/O. Click on the Inserts tab and add a stereo insert on i/o ports 7&8. Name it accordingly.

Now, if you choose an insert (just like you would pull up a plug-in) you will see a new menu called I/O. In that menu you will see your new hardware insert.
